Manifest Your Dream Life: Cozy Edition
Learn my recipe that makes cozying your home & calming your energy a piece of cake, AND makes connecting with your manifestations that much easier
“I always thought I’d want a modern home, but now that I have it, it doesn’t feel how I thought it would. I don’t know what to do.”
I was sitting around a fire this weekend, chatting with an acquaintance about her new-build house. She said for the first year she’s been there, she’s been afraid to so much as drive a nail into the brand-new walls because she doesn’t want to “mess it up.”
Her house feels hollow and not like the home she imagined.
Raise your hand if you can relate. Maybe you’re feeling it now.
“I always thought I’d want a modern home, but now that I have it, it doesn’t feel how I thought it would.”
This is such a simple statement, but I read between the lines.
I responded, “Right, I mean everything is so artificial, copy/paste and “builder grade” these days, it makes you want something special, that doesn’t look so…blah.
I think you want your house to be more personal and layered… I can imagine it doesn’t feel very cozy, does it?”
“YES! LAYERS! I WANT LAYERS and layers! I want my house to be cozy!”
She nearly jumped out of her chair.
There it is.
The Modern Affliction
I’d heard everything I needed to know in that moment. When my fireside friend expressed disappointment in her “modern” home, I interpreted something deeper than she realized.
She described her house as a modern, new build. What comes to mind when you picture a house like that?
Here’s what I envision:
Open floor plan
Bright, bare walls
Minimal decor
Neutrals everywhere
Cold LED lights
Straight lines
Essentially, this list is the exact opposite of a layered, cozy home.
This seemingly small confession sparked a real “aha!” moment for my fireside friend, and it’s one I see every time I have a conversation like this.
She wants layers. She wants depth. She wants coziness.
I don’t think she realized that a house alone, especially the “modern” builds we see today doesn’t automatically emanate the energy we want to feel. It’s up to us to create it for ourselves.
The Cozy Cure
Here’s the thing: cozy looks different to you than it does to anyone else, but the root feelings are universal.
The word itself is an amalgamation of a lot of different feelings combined that equal one greater feeling.
The technical definition of cozy is: giving of comfort, warmth and relaxation.
And even those words require building blocks of emotions to achieve!
To feel comfort, you have to be safe, with all of your basic needs met.
To feel warmth, you have to be sheltered and protected with some kind of heat source.
To feel relaxed, again, you have to feel safe enough physically and emotionally to let your guard down so your nervous system can finally exhale.
I don’t take coziness for granted, and in fact, I take it very seriously.
The Powerful Energy of Cozy
Think back to when you were a kid – did you have a teddy bear you held close when the world felt too big?
Did you have a favorite blankie that protected you from monsters under the bed?
Even now, don’t we romanticize cozy season and sweater weather?!
We LOVE to be cozy because at our core, it’s a signal of safety, warmth and protection. I cannot think of a more powerful spell to cast on your home.
Since the first textiles were invented, humans have been using them for covering, shelter, safety, warmth, camouflage… I could go on. The fabrics and textures in our lives have always served as sources of warmth, safety, protection and comfort.
Cozy isn’t a Want. It’s a Need.
You’ve definitely set foot in those homes that make every muscle in your body melt instantly. Your shoulders drop, your breathing slows. Maybe you’ve fallen asleep in these houses before you even realized it was happening.
That’s your nervous system telling you something: I feel safe. I feel at ease. I feel held.
Why isn’t your house that home?
Now, more than ever before, it needs to be a requirement that our homes provide us with this sense of safety, trust and deep ease.
Feeling “cozy” unlocks your body & mind.
When you’re safe, protected, warm and at rest, your mind and body enter a parasympathetic or resting state, allowing for creativity, wonderment, curiosity, ease and flow — all the things that open you up to new ideas and actions that lead to… you guessed it, your manifestations.
You can intentionally create a space that puts you into this state every time you’re in it, automatically opening yourself to higher consciousness, or simply put, “better vibes.” You can look all this up — by all means, trust science.
Creating a cozy space is a powerful yet gentle way to help your mind and body synchronize with safety and expansion, ultimately leading you closer to your manifestations.
You are in Control
You have the creative power to craft a space that supports you, amplifies you and lets you connect with your greater purpose, whatever that means to you.
I’ve experienced this myself, and I’ve watched my clients melt into their spaces once they turn up the cozy factor — even just a little.
Here’s how to do it.
