You’re Haunting Your Own House
Alchemize the energy of your home by releasing ghosts of the past
Our homes hold everything — our past, our present and our future. But what happens when our past gets stuck on a loop, projected back to us every single day?
See the ghosts for what they are — energy fragments that can be released.
We think we move on from the past — the breakup, the toxic job, the friend group that doesn’t vibe anymore. But more often than not, we’re haunting ourselves in ways we don’t even notice. Remnants of our past hang around our homes through our things, holding the energy of old versions of ourselves, keeping us stuck.
That’s why I tell everyone who wants a home that truly reflects them to start by clearing space.
Ghost Busters
So often, things sit in the periphery — there, but under the radar. It’s the chair you bought when you lived with your ex, the “swag” junk from a toxic job, the group photo with that person you’ve lost touch with. You may not actively notice these things all the time or attach much meaning to them, but they’re still there, taking up space and clogging your energy field.
Old versions of yourself, old lives, old stories — the ghosts — they’re keeping you chained to the past, looping on emotions that stagnate your energy and subtly drain you.
Go Towards the Light
When your home contains things, memories and feelings that need to be released, clarity can’t come. Ignoring stagnant energy, blocked feelings, and heavy emotions over time turns into low-grade hum discomfort. Food left on the back burner still gets burnt if left there too long, after all.
When you decide to let go of things that don’t represent who you are now, you free energy within your homes and within yourself, opening a vacuum for the next best thing to find you. You and your space will feel lighter, freer and more open to possibility.
Clearing physical space tells your subconscious mind: my old story has ended, and this is who I am now. This is energy magic. This is alchemy.
Grieve the Dead
Clearing space is very liberating but can also be very heavy — ghosts don’t always go quietly. It can be really hard to let go of things, especially when there’s emotion and memory attached. That’s normal. I advise going slow, taking your time and validating your emotions through the process. Be sure to get support if you need it.
And don’t worry about being perfect or becoming a minimalist — that’s not what this is. This is a ritual, a practice, of getting tuned into yourself. You don’t have to purge your entire home, you just need to listen to the feelings that come up as you move through your space, deciding what feels right and what feels off.
The After Life
When the space is cleared, even just a little, many people are utterly awestruck at what arises: inspiration, new ideas, visions, excitement — you just never know what creativity is waiting to emerge once the ghosts of our past have left the room.
