The Home Alchemy Method

Do it yourself is out. Do it together is in— and your home will never be the same

Summary:

The Home Alchemy Method, formerly the Foundry Formula, is a 7-step room redesign framework that uses a do-it-together approach to help you decorate the home that reflects your inner world in your outer space.

It’s the bridge between hiring a designer and DIY decorating that makes interior design more personally aligned than it’s ever been. Alchemy of Home elevates decorating to pure alchemy by uncovering the true energy your home is meant to express. Together, we design your home to completely magnetic, alive and beautiful because we design it to be a mirror of you.

Why should you alchemize your home?

There are moments in life when our homes become our priority.

If you’ve just closed a huge chapter, and now you’re building a new life for yourself, home becomes a place of self-expression that doesn’t look the way it used to for you.

If you, like me, deeply feel everything, and constantly have to remind yourself that you deserve care, too, then your home needs to be your cocoon. It needs to be the place you can really return to yourself day in and day out.

For some, you need your space to be your home base. You live a busy life, and you need a place that pulls you in and soothes you at the end of the day, because the chaos is not sustainable at home, too.

And for others, home is a form of art. The level of detail you put into your environment matters, because it’s your energetic field made manifest.

Our homes are soul-spaces, and so decorating must become intensely personal in ways that traditional interior design and DIY decorating miss entirely.

But now, more than ever, we need our homes to bring us back to ourselves when the world is too much. We need a place to rest, laugh, grieve, heal and grow.

Most of all, we need homes that are fine-tuned to who we are and who we are becoming.

The Alchemy of Home

To alchemize your home is to reach beyond surface-level decorating and make your outer space into a reflection of your inner world.

I’m not just talking about choosing the Pantone Color of the Year for your walls. I’m talking about choosing the exact color blue that takes you back to the Summer mid-afternoon sky you rode bikes under every day as a kid. Every time you walk in the room, you feel the sun on your skin, smell fresh-cut grass and feel sprinkler drops evaporating in the heat.

To alchemize your home is to break down every surface, nook and cranny into it’s base elements, and then ask yourself, what do I want this room to be?

You have to suspend your own rules about what you think you’re supposed to want and listen to you need from the home you’re living in.

Only then does it make sense to start choosing things that match the frequency you want your home to emit. But we’re used to trying to do it the other way around.

DIY Doesn’t Work

If it did, you wouldn’t be here right now. Your home would be done and you’d love it already.

Let me break this down:

I love DIY — don’t get me wrong. And compared to how expensive interior designers are? PLEASE! I’m DIY-ing every single time. BUT — of course there’s a but — DIY is really hard.

You have to not only be able to envision the whole room in your head, but you also have to do every single step to get there. The logistics are a nightmare on a good day, and every idea opens up a dozen new questions:

  • If I buy this rug, will it go with the curtains?

  • I eventually want a new couch, so should I wait?

  • I just painted now none of my decor looks right. How am I gonna fix this?

  • How do I make this look next level?

And then there’s running all the errands, returning everything that doesn’t work, and generally spending weeks, if not months, of time never actually getting the room finished.

And the worst part: It never really feels like you no matter what you do (or don’t do).

The Missing Ingredient in Home Design

The reason your house never feels like you no matter how many boards you Pin together or how many trips to Home Goods you make is because the Alchemy of your home is missing.

DIY advice is too general. Sure, you can learn how to put together a pretty home from the internet, but it’s missing the injection of you. And that’s where the Alchemy comes in.

No one wants a generic house that looks like every other living room on the internet. You’re tired of following yet another ever-changing Target trend, too.

Basic decorating and trend-chasing used to work, but it doesn’t anymore. You need more than that from your home.

  • To the person starting over, you need a home that lets you finally become who you are. You need room to breathe, explore and try new things without losing yourself all over again. You need a home that gives you grace to write your next chapter.

  • To the burnt-out recovering people-pleaser, you need a home that’s your sanctuary — and one that’s on your terms. You need a safe haven you can retreat to every single day that protects you and finally lets your spark return to yourself.

  • To the high-achiever who demands excellence in your life, chaos cannot create calm, yet that is what you need the most from your home. You need a space that grounds you back to yourself so that you can keep architecting your life from a steady foundation.

  • And to the one whose life is becoming their greatest work of art, you need a home that’s as intricate, complex, expressive and alive as you are. Playing it safe never got anyone anywhere fast, and you need your home to speak before you ever even open your mouth.

What you need has nothing to do with paint colors, furniture or decor, but it has everything to do with alchemizing your home into the place that is a mirror of who you are and how you live best.

The Alchemy of your home is a completely unique experience to you. Designing a home that’s one of one is the whole entire point.

Alchemy of Home and the Home Alchemy Method make interior design an experience instead of a project to finish.

By connecting with your inner world, “decorating” becomes the easy part. When you move from choosing based on external advice to choosing based on what you genuinely love, your home becomes a reflection of who you are.

You don’t guess anymore about what “looks good” or even what steps to take first because the Home Alchemy Method supports you in cultivating your own style and applying it to the home you have so it actually works in your real life.

If you’ve never thought about home this way before, you’re not alone. Although maybe now that you’ve read this, it makes the most sense in the world.

Inside the Home Alchemy Method, I have every new student complete the Home Alchemy Archetype Quiz — it helps you see where your home is currently missing the mark for you and what steps you need to take first to move closer the home you need.

You can take that Quiz to find out your Home Alchemy Archetype right below.

Our homes are our essential containers for the lives we live, and they should be treated with as much reverence, care, respect and admiration as we give to great works of art.

Take the quiz and see if it shifts something closer to home for you.

Written from home,

Liz
