The Alchemy of Home

I’m Liz (Hi, Liz!) and I believe home is the most magical place on Earth— besides the beautiful Earth herself. Home is where we start every day, end every day and where life unfolds moment by moment in between.

I’m really not trying to be corny, but I think that’s what makes home the most important place on Earth, too.

Think back to when you were a kid. One of the first pictures you ever drew was probably a house, a sun and a little tree. See, you get it. The connection was connecting.

Or, maybe you didn’t have that safe, loving connection to home as a kid, and if that’s the case, my heart goes out to you. And I want to tell you now that it’s never, ever, too late to come home to yourself. You can do it today.

The only home that’s “right” is the one that you love.

The Magic of Beauty

There are legitimate studies out there that prove the positive impact of beauty on our brains, and I’ll add mind, body and soul to that too.

Observing something beautiful signals safety and calm to your brain. Towns that paint murals and beautify public spaces experience lower crime and happier rates of happiness among residents.

We tend to care more for things we find beautiful, and that’s my small potatoes case for prioritizing the way your house looks.

Your Home is Your Mirror

The most important part of home to me isn’t how it looks, though. It’s how it feels. And more specifically, how it feels to you.

Your home is an extension and a reflection of you — whether you choose it or not.

It pains me (literally) to see homes designed and decorated for trends and “shoulds” rather than what the inhabitant wants to live inside every day.

What I mean is, so often, we choose and settle for colors, furniture and decor that is just ok. It “works.” It fills the room and does the job. But how does that make you feel, really?

Do you love coming home every single day? Do you relax fully, stress melting off you as soon as you enter your private oasis? Do you have even one room in your house that’s your sanctuary? Would your inner five-year-old be impressed or feel totally bored by the paint colors you picked out? It’s worth asking because the way you feel every day inside your home doesn’t stay inside your home.

The tension you carry when you can’t fully settle follows you to bed, where you probably clench your jaw all night. The “unfinished” feeling of a room not being done trails behind you to work like a shadow, reminding you that “you must be forgetting something.” Not having a landing place that feels deeply safe, secure and fine-tuned to you leaves you feeling lost at sea in a way that’s hard to clock until you experience the opposite.

The Alchemy of Your Home

Your life, your hobbies, interests, fears, hopes, stresses, passions and dreams all live inside you, swirling under the surface. And they’re all unique to you. No one else in the world has the inner life that you do, and yet, it feels like we do everything we can to stifle that, to keep it to ourselves and never let anyone, including ourselves, fully see and acknowledge who we really are.

But home is different. Home doesn’t question or judge. It simply reflects. It can reflect every part of yourself you hide, or it can reflect the parts of you that make you feel truly alive in the moments you secretly steal between work and family and friends and health and sleep and everything else on your plate.

What if you came home every day to a home that literally glowed because the lighting is tuned just the way you like it? What if the colors you picked put your mind in spa-mode every time you walk in the bathroom for your nighttime routine? What if your bedroom brought sparks back into your relationship because it’s no longer a dumping ground for the day, but a sensual, relaxed, romantic getaway?

This is the real power of intention in the room. I’m not claiming your home can magically fix every problem in your life, but I am saying you have way more of a fighting chance when you live in an environment that’s safe, supported and beautiful. You fully deserve that.

And if you’re like, “Liz, that sounds nice, but really I’m just tired of wasting time and money trying make my house look good. Can you help me or not?

Yes, friend. I can absolutely help you with that, but don’t be surprised when you get more than you bargained for — in the best way.

So Come on in and Stay Awhile

If this sparked your curiosity, I’d love to invite you to learn more about how exactly Alchemy of Home helps you turn your outer space into a reflection of your inner world. I have a post about that right here. And if you just want to see what I mean for yourself, you can jump right in with a free Room Audit (while available), and find out what the DIT (do it together) Home Alchemy Method is all about.

Either way, I hope to chat with you soon. Pop me a note or any questions to hello@alchemy-of-home.com any time. I’d love to hear from you.

Written from home,

Liz
